Eucharistic Ministers

An Extraodinary Minister of Holy Communion (previously Special Ministers of the Eucharist) is a person authorized to distribute holy communion in special circumstances,  and is commissioned to do so by the local parish priest in a rite that takes place in the presence of people during Mass or outside of Mass.

The most visible role of these ministers is the distribution of communion during the Eucharist, as well as bringing communion to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. At most Masses 7 eucharistic ministers participate, requiring the faithful services of 35 ministers every week.

This Ministry requires special and specific trianing and committment.  At St.Pius, this Ministry is headed by Fr. Paul Hesse with Lucy Boyd as the Coordinator.  A schedule of all EMHC's and their times to serve is drafted every 2 months.  There are no formal meetings however there are at least 2 retreats planned for each year.

If you feel called to assist in this ministry, please contact the parish office at 993-4053.
