Altar Servers

Children and youth serve the altar during Mass and other Holy Day celebrations. Boys and girls, 4th through 12th grade, are invited to take part in this ministry.

2018 Altar Server Recognition
The Diocese of Corpus Christi recognizes Altar Servers for their dedication and commitment in several different ways at the annual Altar Server Recognition Service at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Recently, several Altar Servers from St. Pius X Parish were publicly and personally recognized by Bishop Michael Mulvey as follows:

The Eucharistic Cross Bearer Award
To be eligible for the Eucharistic Cross Bearer award, a server should have served for at least 3 years; must be at least in the 9th grade; must be a model of dedication to serving; must promise to serve all four years throughout high school; and must be approved by his/her pastor. Eucharistic Cross recipients wear a Eucharistic Cross attached to a red cord with red tassels. Eucharistic Cross recipients also received a red sash to be worn around the waist as a sign of their commitment to continue serving all the way through high school. The 2018 recipients of the Eucharistic Cross Bearer Award are: Ryan Lennan, Christian Ramos, Briana Rodriguez, Kyler Ross and Jonathon Shull.

Recognition for 10 Years of Service
Servers who have served ten years received a Eucharistic Cross with a purple cord and tassels, along with a purple sash. The 2018 recipients of the Recognition for 10 Years of Service are: Emily Rodriguez, Amy Ayala, Mark Muenster & Benjamin Toren.

Outstanding Server for St. Pius X Parish
One male and one female server who have given outstanding service over the past year were recognized with the presentation of special plaques designating them as this year’s Outstanding Servers for St. Pius X Parish. The 2018 Male Outstanding Server is Christian Ramos and the 2018 Female Outstanding Server is Amy Ayala.

Congratulations to these young men and women, as well as to all of our Altar Servers and M.C.’s!

When heroes fall

(AL 107). (When Heroes Fall, Helping Kids Cope, TO Nov 2011, p 7) How do we help keep kids from becoming disillusioned or cynical when those they admire are caught in a scandal? And how can we make sure they are not misled by bad examples? Here are three tips for making sure our kids aren’t stung too badly by fallen heroes: Give them heroes they can count on. Make sure your children know the saints — men and women who lived truly virtuous lives and can be counted upon to be good examples. Holy cards, medals and developmentally appropriate books and movies about the lives of the saints can be important tools in encouraging devotion to holy men and women. A good place to begin might be with saints who share the child’s name, or saints whose child- hood is part of the story. Teens are often intrigued by stories of courageous young people who went against the grain. St. Maria Goretti and St. Dominic Savio are excellent examples. Young kids especially often follow our leads. Do we show devotion to saints with whom they might be able to identify? Use a hero’s fall to talk about our universal vulnerability to temptation . All of us have areas of weakness, and all of us sin. Having an unusual amount of talent and notoriety doesn’t make people immune to (and may sometimes actually make them more vulnerable to) these human liabilities. Reassure your child that he or she can always count on God. While human beings will continually fail us, God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He will never let us down. Weariness
